Abstract :
Entitled Al-Athar al-Baqiya 'an al-Qurun al-Khaliya, this Arabic title is usually translated into English as The Chronology of Ancient Nations. Dated to 707/1307-8, this manuscript was copied by Ibn al-Qutbi.1Unfortunately, it provides no explicit indication of its place of production, or the identity of its patron. It is possible that the upper portion of the frontispiece may have contained this information. However, it now bears the mark of a more recent ownership: ‘R. M. Binning, Isfahan, July 4, 1851.’ The manuscript is now in Edinburgh University Library (MS. Arab.161).
