Abstract :
The present article investigates the phenomenon of so-called regional literature in Flanders during the interwar period, by taking as a case three novels which are situated in roughly the same geographical area, namely the polder-landscape. A meticulous textual analysis demonstrates how this space, and consequently the close relation between the characters and their environment which is considered constitutive for the genre, is narrativized in various ways, in keeping with the poetic conception of literature and the function associated with a particular text type.
