Abstract :
Since the 1970’s, the Church of England has been trying to reach a consensus in the matter of remarrying divorced people in church, when their former spouse is still living. Following a strong affirmation of marriage as a gift of God, in a teaching document entitled “Marriage” which was published in September 1999, the House of Bishops commissioned a working party to produce a paper for discussion about remarriage. “Marriage in Church after Divorce” was published early in 2000.
