It goes back to the 14th century and initially it was a text for recitation. In the 15th century it functioned as a prayer in a West Flemish prayerbook, and in the early 16th century it was put toghether with a melody in Een devoot ende profitelyck boecxken, a printed collection of devotional songs. |
