Abstract :
The Participation of the Orthodox Churches in the Assembly of the World Council of Churches, December 1998, Harare.
Firstly, the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox delegations at the assembly, their composition and financial aspects are described. Secondly, the inter-Orthodox meetings and the plenary sessions are treated. Special attention is paid to the reports of the Moderator and the General Secretary and Orthodox comments on these, to the CUV document, to the Ecumenical Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women, Africa, the election of the new Central Committee and the Statement on Jerusalem. Fourthly, the padareof workshops, etc., is described. Finally, an evaluation is made, in which tensions during the assembly, inter-Orthodox unity and disunity, cultural and theological differences, factors of personal communication and liturgical diversity are dealt with.
