Abstract :
Greeks and Romans had an essentially different concept of deity than the biblical authors in that their concept was predicative: they did not say 'God is mighty', but 'What is mighty, is God'. The attribution of the predicate 'god' to entities other than (the biblical) God himself hardly occurs in the Bible except in a later phase of the development of New Testament christology, when in writings of the final decades of the first century Jesus Christ incidentally begins to be called 'god'.
