Le joueur qui a tout perdu incarne ainsi les valeurs fondamentales de la poétique védique, avec ses paradoxes: exposé à l’abandon et à l’échec, il fait l’apprentissage difficile d’une parole toujours fuyante, toujours à retrouver. The poetic implications of the Ṛksaṃhitā may suggest a new approach to this corpus. We offer here a new interpretation of the akṣasūkta (ṚS X 34). According to our analysis, the scene of the game constitutes an allegory, a self-applied figured discourse on the poet’s own art. By establishing a similarity between his relation with speech on one hand and the reality of gambling with its unpredictable, irrevocable laws on the other, the poet exposes the fundamental values of the Vedic poetic, together with its intrinsic paradoxes: as the defeated gambler, he is exposed to abandonment and failure while undergoing the difficult task of seizing the word, decidedly evasive, for ever to be regained. |
