Document Details : Title: Walewein Revisited Author(s): HARPER, R. Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 41 Issue: 3 Date: 1999 Pages: 195-203 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.41.3.630107 Abstract : Until the middle of the last decade, the moral excellence of the main character of the thirteenth-century Roman van Walewein was never questioned. Recently however, serious doubts about this general assumption have been raised by Winkelman. In the following article, his arguments in favour of the hypothesis that the Walewein of this romance is by no means the perfect hero he was always considered to be, will be scrutinized and, for the greater part, rejected. |
