Abstract :
Paul van Ostaijen, Gaston Burssens and Richard Minne are widely acknowledged as three of the most prominent Flemish poets of the era between the two World Wars. Van Ostaijen and Burssens are categorized as „modernist” poets, Minne as a more traditional one. Some authors (Boon, De Haes, Dangin, Van Berlaer-Hellemans, Jooris, T’Sjoen) have suggested that this dichotomy is wrong, and that Minne was in some ways a modern poet as well. This essay tries to figure out what and how the relationships between these poets were, and on which terms they can be seen as „modern”.
