Abstract :
This article gives an English translation of a metrical homily attributed to Jacob of Serugh († 521) entitled “On the Mysteries, Types and Figures of Christ”. Its Syriac text has been published by P. Bedjan. This homily, considered as authentic by some modern scholars, is actually a compilation of verses taken from other homilies of Jacob. More than half of the verses (167 out of 330) were identified as exact reproductions. The possibility of the redactor or redactors inserting some of their own verses or ideas cannot be overlooked. However, the homily is interesting, because most of the themes and terminology are those of Jacob of Serugh.
