Document Details : Title: An American Architect in Iran and Afghanistan Subtitle: The John B McCool Correspondence (August - December 1937) - Part 2: The Documents Author(s): HAUBEN, H. Journal: Orientalia Lovaniensia Periodica Volume: 29 Date: 1998 Pages: 241-270 DOI: 10.2143/OLP.29.0.583572 Abstract : In the last issue of the present journal we introduced the reader to the correspondence of the American architect John B. McCool (“JMC”), putting it in its historical setting. An attempt was also made to reconstruct as accurately as possible the chronology of the great adventure of his life, the 1937 expedition to Iran led by the fascinating, not to say overwhelming, Arthur Upham Pope. It is time now to let the documents speak for themselves. The 23 letters and 2 postcards have been classified in a strictly chronological order, with a corresponding serial number. As the correct date of a document (mentioned each time under the title) is not necessarily that given by JMC, the reader should always keep the Timetable in Part 1 at hand. |
