Abstract :
The aim of this communication is to reconstruct a possibility for the rite of the funeral ceremonies which were in use in the Syrian city of Palmyra during its well known historic life (Ist century BC – IIIrd century AD).
Funerary rites are an everyday aspect of our lives and the details of the related ceremonies vary as a function of the sensibility developed with respect to the dead in the various religions all over the world, and depend also on the historical period.
The elements of various kinds available for analysis: the necropolis and the tombs, the funerary inscriptions, the funerary reliefs, the frescoes, funerary objects and the Palmyrene tesserge will allow us to elucidate, at least partly, the character of the Palmyrene funerary religiosity.
