Journal: Studia Iranica Volume: 33 Issue: 1 Date: 2004 Pages: 47-111 DOI: 10.2143/SI.33.1.563194 Abstract : Thus far the study of tea in Iran has been limited to the history of its use and the process by which Iran, a country of coffee drinkers, became one of tea drinkers. In this study, I offer some information on how tea was imbibed in Iran. However, the focus of the discussion is on the commercial, both quantitative and qualitative, dimension of tea drinking, i.e., how much, where and what kind of tea was imported into Qajar Iran. Finally, how was the British-Russian rivalry played out in the field of tea import and what this meant for changes in trading pattern? Les études de la consommation de thé en Iran se sont jusqu'à ici limité à l'histoire de son usage et le processus de la transformation de l'Iran d'un pays des consommateurs de café à un pays des consommateurs de thé. Le présent travail offre de l'information sur comment les Persans buvaient le thé. Néanmoins, l'étude se concentre sur la dimension commerciale, quantitative et qualitative de la consommation de thé, à savoir : combien, où, et quelle sorte de thé fut importée, et par quelle voie, en Perse. Enfin, l'article s'interroge sur le développement de la concurrence entre la Grande Bretagne et la Russie, et sur les conséquences de cette rivalité pour le fonctionnement des routes commerciales. |
