Document Details : Title: 'Dove' and 'God(s)' in Ps 56,1 Author(s): BEGG, C. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 64 Issue: 4 Date: December 1988 Pages: 393-396 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.64.4.556409 Abstract : The MT title of Psalm 56 contains a formulation, i.e. 'l yônat 'ēlem reḥôqîm which constitutes a long-standing enigma. Generally, MT's sequence is understood to mean something like 'on/concerning the dove of silence of the far-off (ones/places)'. So understood, the readig has always had it advocates? Most exegetes of the last two centuries, however, have maintained that, at a minimum, the MT vocalized form 'ēlem requires emendation. The grounds for this view are several. |
