It was mainly based on the Greek manuscripts known and available since the nineteenth century. The same manuscripts were used in editions such as the well-known 'Bihlmeyer', the edition of the Acts of the Christian Martyrs by H. Musurillo, and even the recent edition of A.P. Orban. Nevertheless an existing manuscript of the Martyrdom of Polycarp had been overlooked. |
