Strecker, and under his chairmanship, a group of New Testament scholars met in Göttingen, July 26-27, 1991, for a Symposium on the Minor Agreements. The program comprised five main papers each followed with a response by one of the participants and a general discussion, in this order: F. Neirynck, The Minor Agreements and the Two-Source Theory (response by D.B. Peabody); M.D. Goulder, Luke's Reconciliation of the Order of Mark and Matthew (response by D.L. Dungan); W.R. Farmer, The Minor Agreements and the Two Gospel Hypothesis (Response by U. Luz); A. Fuchs, Mk 4,35-41 parr (response by W. Schenk); C.M. Tuckett, The Minor Agreements and Textual Criticism (response by F. Wheeler). The main options with respect to the minor agreements were represented at the meeting: on the one hand, priority of Mark and independent redaction by Matthew and Luke (Neirynck); priority of Mark and Luke's dependence on Matthew (Goulder); priority of Mark and the hypothesis of a Deutero-Mark, source of Matthew and Luke (Fuchs); priority of Mark occasionally combined with a deuteromarkan recension and oral-tradition variants (Luz); and, on the other hand, the neo-Griesbachian hypothesis of Markan posteriority: Matthew is copied by Luke and both are conflated in Mark (Farmer). Tuckett's paper concentrated on the possibility of conjectural emendation, particularyly in the case of Mt 26,68. |
