Selling offers little comment on the Catechism's treatment of sacred art. The Catechismtreats sacred art in the last of six sections under Article Eight dedicated to the Eighth Commandment. Selling observes of Section VI entitled 'Truth, Beauty, and Sacred Art,' that 'this latter hangs in the text like an ornament on a Christmas tree; this was as good a place as any to put it!' One of the goals of this discussion is to offer a rationale as to why the framers of the Catechism placed their remarks on sacred art where they did. This discussion will argue that the placement is not as haphazard as Selling's remark suggests. |
