The theory that the Gospel of Mark is an abridgement of Matthew and Luke has become known mainly through the work of the eighteenth-century biblical scholar Johann Jakob Griesbach. The question we want to deal with here is wether Griesbac came to this hypothesis under the influence of teh investigations of other scholars or independently.
