L’A. relève le rôle capital de la notion de féconditéqui y est développée. Cette notion soutient en fait tout l’ouvrage, y compris le thème du visage. Cela pose problème puisque celui-ci ne devait être soutenu par rien d’autre que luimême. Pour approfondir cette question, l’A. remonte aux textes de jeunesse et y cherche le rôle heuristique de la fécondité. Elle semble répondre au besoin d’évasion, décrit en 1935. Cela pose une nouvelle difficulté:ce besoin devait être une recherche de ce qui échappe à l’être. En chemin, l’A. considère l’asymétrie du point de vue du naître. L’A. retourne ensuite à Totalité et Infini pour préciser le sens des questions qu’il pose à ce texte. Notamment, une circularité: la fécondité est requise pour justifier une théorie dont elle a besoin comme soutien. This article centres on the fourth section of Totalité et Infini. The A. highlights the fundamental role played by the notion of fecundity developed in this section. This notion in fact underlies the entire work, including the topic of the face. This is problematic because this topic was not intended to be based on anything but itself. In order to deal with this matter, the A. goes back to Levinas’ youthful writings and inquires into the heuristic role played in them by fecundity. The latter seems to correspond to the need for evasion, described in 1935. This raises a new difficulty: this need was intended to be an inquiry into that which escapes being. In the course of his study the A. considers the assymetry from the point of view of being born. The A. then returns to Totalité et Infini in order to render more specific the questions he sought an answer to from this text. In particular circularity of thought:fecundity is required to justify a theory which it needs to support it. |
