Abstract :
This formation (qǝtûl < qutûl) is among the commonest broken plurals in Arabic. Thus Arabic nufûs 'people, population' is the broken plural of nafs 'soul, person'; mulûk pl., malik sg. 'king'; buḥûr pl., baḥhr sg. 'sea', buyût pl., bayt sg. 'house,'etc.
