Two features of Kurdish life are becoming increasingly known to the outside world: suffering and out-migration from the Kurdish homeland. Most of the attention paid to these phenomena takes the form of macro- political or economic analysis. The ethnographic perspective presented in this article offers an alternative view focused on lived experience in Iraqi Kurdistan.
