Document Details : Title: Prosodic deterioration and comprehension in simultaneous interpreting Subtitle: a follow up experiment Author(s): SEEBER, Killian G. Journal: Cahiers de l'Institut de Linguistique de Louvain Volume: 30 Issue: 1-3 Date: 2004 Pages: 233-242 DOI: 10.2143/CILL.30.1.519220 Abstract : SEEBER's (2001) experiment on intonation and anticipation in simultaneous interpreting revealed interpreters to anticipate verbs more quickly and more accurately when interpreting a digitally monotized text. A scrutiny of the original experimental design identified prosodic deterioration as a potential confounding variable. Consequently, a follow-up experiment was designed using shadowing speed and accuracy as indicators of source text comprehension. The results did not indicate a strong causal relation between prosodic deterioration and source text comprehension. |
