Abstract :
This paper gives a survey of current name law in the Nordic countries. The author also makes some reflections on the consequences arid effects of the personal names acts. Iceland and the Faeroer largely have preserved their traditional naming custom. In these countries, as well as in Denmark and Finland, the authorities co-operate with linguistic experts. Norway and Sweden are considerably more liberal in interpreting the legislation.
