The guiding idea is that of discovering how these two thinkerscould help all those who are engaged in a dialogical situation to have a respectful and meaningful encounter with the other and with what the other says. It is not the purpose of this article to attempt a comparison between the tought of Gadamer and Levinas, nor is it my aim to what extent such an intriguing and thought provoking comparison would be plausible. My goal, instead, is to explore the concept of dialogue from the perspective of hermeneutics and 'quasi-phenomenology' as developed respectively by Gadamer and Levinas and underline their basic concerns. |
