Abstract :
For this paper we examined the syntactic representation of agentivity in one of the most condensed forms of scientific writing: abstracts of published research articles. The reason for choosing this genre is twofold: First, the concentrated character of the abstract is highly suitable to enforce favored linguistic strategies in scientific writing. Secondly, with the possibility of online access to research articles, abstracts have become increasingly important, as first access to specific articles or in the form of abstract-only publications.
