Abstract :
Bey 003, excavated by the American University of Beirut Museum starting in 1993, was the first site excavated in the ancient Tell. Although most of the Bronze Age material is already published elsewhere, new elements are brought up and the remaining sites of the ancient Tell are taken into consideration as well. The author gives a chronological overview (early – middle – late Bronze Age) and discusses some interesting features for each period (eg the temple in the middle Bronze Age). One may conclude that the Bronze Age archaeological discoveries described in the article finally provide evidence of the ancient city of Beirut as known in the texts.
