Document Details : Title: Trends and Developments in the Field of Interreligious Dialogue Author(s): EVERS, Georg Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 12 Issue: 2 Date: 2002 Pages: 232-247 DOI: 10.2143/SID.12.2.504431 Abstract : The year 2001, which had originally been assigned by the United Nations to be the 'Year of Dialogue between Civilizations' turned out to be a year in which the whole project of interreligious understanding and dialogue was to its severest test. In the last year's review of 'Trends and Developments in the Field of Interreligious Dialogue' I had already spoken about the fact that interreligious dialogue seemed to be gasping for breath. Viewed with hindsight and in the light of events of last year, this now seems to have been an exaggeration. In the following I would like to start with the description of two events to throw some light on the situation in the field of interreligious encounter prior to the overarching events of September 11 which dominated the discussion afterwards and till today. |
