Abstract :
Christine D’haen’s entry in literature was remarkable. Only two years after she published her official debut she was awarded the first ‘Arkprijs van het vrije woord’ [Ark-prize for free speech], which caused a small storm in the literary periodicals. A closer look at her early writing shows that D’haen actually was not a newcomer when the first poem signed Christine D’haen appeared in 1948 in Dietsche Warande & Belfort. In the years that preceded this occasion, she had already published numerous pseudonymous poems, aphorisms and short stories in several youth magazines. These early steps in literature are evidence both of her literary evolution and of her changing view on life.
