Abstract :
The famous British traveller and writer, Mrs. Bishop, formerly known as Isabella L. Bird, described in here books how Anglo-Saxon Presbyterian Missionaries installed high-class education in Urmi (Kurdistan). The results of their education were surprising, instead of builing up a local scholarly tradition, graduated students moved to Russia, America or an other country where they could make money out of their knowledge. This laid -according to some authors- the basis of the emigration that is still going on at this very moment. The author discusses this issue in detail.
