Document Details : Title: Henri Bate et le fantôme de Thiérache Subtitle: Les expérimentations d'un astronome Author(s): PIRON, Sylvain Journal: Recherches de Théologie et Philosophie Médiévales Volume: 91 Issue: 2 Date: 2024 Pages: 285-302 DOI: 10.2143/RTPM.91.2.3293903 Abstract : Ghost stories abound in Henry Bate’s Speculum divinorum. Part XVII (still unpublished) devotes three chapters to such stories, while part XIX provides more general comments on the nature of such apparitions. One of those stories, otherwise unknown, is remarkable because Bate himself took part in it, examining a young girl who could see and talk with her deceased father. On that occasion, Bate performed some scientific experiments in order to test the ability of spiritual beings to act on matter. |
