Document Details : Title: La démonologie platonicienne au Moyen Âge (de l'Antiquité tardive à la fin du XIIe siècle) Author(s): CAIAZZO, Irene Journal: Recherches de Théologie et Philosophie Médiévales Volume: 91 Issue: 2 Date: 2024 Pages: 231-284 DOI: 10.2143/RTPM.91.2.3293902 Abstract : Platonic demonology was known in the Middle Ages mainly through Apuleius, Calcidius, Augustine, and Martianus Capella. In the 12th century, there was a true revival of Platonic demonology, the textual and pictorial traditions of which can be traced in the era’s commentaries on Plato’s Timaeus, Macrobius’ Commentarii in Somnium Scipionis, and Martianus Capella’s De Nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii, among others. This contribution examines works of Lambert of Saint-Omer, William of Conches, Peter Abelard, and Bernard Silvestris; Raoul of Longchamp and Alain of Lille are also quickly mentioned. |
