Il s’agira de montrer comment ce désespoir d’atteindre la vérité, renforcé par le scepticisme néo-académicien, s’inscrit dans un processus intellectuel qui amène Augustin à s’éloigner du manichéisme et à se rapprocher de la foi catholique. This paper examines the topic of despair as an epistemological concept in the fifth book of Augustine’s Confessions. Its aim is to show how this despair of attaining the truth, reinforced by neo-Academic scepticism, is part of an intellectual process that leads Augustine to move away from Manichaeism and towards the Catholic faith. |
