J.-C. par les néoi de Xanthos (Lycie) à Lysôn fils de Démosthénès, leur gymnasiarque. Le décret conservant leur décision, mis au jour dans le Létôon de la cité, émane des usagers du gymnase, mais sa portée semble s’étendre à l’ensemble de la cité. En effet, l’action de Lysôn en politique tient une part importante dans les honneurs qui lui sont décernés alors qu’il est vivant. La manière dont ces honneurs étaient matérialisés sur le terrain doit également être prise en compte si l’on souhaite appréhender la façon dont ils impactaient les usagers et autres visiteurs des lieux. C’est ainsi l’articulation des honneurs entre le gymnase et la cité qui est étudiée ici, d’un point de vue tant idéologique que matériel, articulation qui prend la forme d’un dialogue constant entre la cité et son gymnase. The present study discusses the case of the cultic honours granted in 196 BCE by the neoi of Xanthos (Lycia) to Lyson son of Demosthenes, their gymnasiarch. The decree preserving their decision, uncovered in the city’s Letoon, was issued by users of the gymnasium, but its scope seems to extend to the whole city. The political actions undertaken by Lyson indeed played an important role in the honours awarded to him while he was alive. The manner in which these honours were bestowed in the field must also be taken into account if we are to understand how they how they affected users and other visitors to the site. This study examines the way in which honours were distributed between the gymnasium and the city, from both an ideological and a material point of view, in the form of a constant dialogue between the city and its gymnasium. |
