Abstract :
The present article deals with the Old Georgian translation of the Book of Tobit and its multilingual annotated electronic parallel corpus edition. The Old Georgian translation of Tobit is translated from Greek and shows a variety of relations to the three textual types of the Greek Tobit in different parts of the text. Except for the Greek (d [6:9-12 fin.]) and Syriac (Sy [7:11 καὶ νῦν-12 fin.]) sources, which present LXXIII partially, this textual type is also preserved in the Old Georgian version of Tobit. Throughout the entire text, OGeo presents a kind of compromise between LXXI and LXXII textual types and it has its own readings as well, which have no parallels among the extant sources, like LXXIII. In the Göttingen editio critica maior of Tobit the Old Georgian translation is not taken into consideration. The fact that there are still no annotated multilingual electronic versions of Georgian biblical books makes Georgian material inaccessible to a wide circle of scholars, especially those who do not know Georgian. The multilingual annotated electronic parallel corpus edition of Tobit constructed by the authors of the article can help scholars pave the way in the complicated picture of the textual variety of Tobit. Such editions might in the future become the basis for automatization of the research.
