Abstract :
This article shows that the First Epistle of Peter not only receives Jewish traditions but also shows parallels to (popular) philosophical discourses. A parallel reading of Dion Chrysotom’s speeches and the First Letter of Peter reveals intellectual similarities and common patterns of argumentation. Both authors use the category of foreignness in a comparable way. Of course, the article does not intend to prove literary dependencies. This comparison illustrates the complexity of the theological argumentation structure of the First Letter of Peter.
