Abstract :
Among Greek papyri of astronomical and astrological content, P.Aberd. 12 and 127 deserve reconsideration. P.Aberd. 12 is the only papyrological attestation of a peculiar type of catalogue-text (otherwise attested only in two extracts, one included in the Aratus Latinus, another in the scriptio inferior of the palimpsest known as the Codex Climaci Rescriptus) with 'markedly Hipparchan' technical features and data. It can therefore be regarded as one of the rare testimonies of the 'astronomy of Hipparchus' and of his legacy. P.Aberd. 127 is part of the same papyrus as P.Gen. 3.123 and joins the witnesses of the peculiar astrological category of 'Sothis texts'. The content of our two Aberdeen fragments and the reunification of P.Aberd. 127 with the Geneva fragment provide further clues about their likely provenance from a context such as Soknopaiou Nesos or more generally a settlement in the Fayum, which was hypothesized by the editor princeps for the bulk of the Aberdeen papyri.
