Document Details : Title: The Caspian Language of Tonekābon Author(s): BORJIAN, Habib Journal: Studia Iranica Volume: 51 Issue: 1 Date: 2022 Pages: 7-49 DOI: 10.2143/SI.51.1.3292131 Abstract : The district of Tonekābon, located to the south of the Caspian Sea between Gilan and Mazandaran proper, is home to Tonekāboni, which forms the Central Caspian language group, together with its immediate neighbors Rāmsari and Kalārestāqi. Central Caspian varieties show a low degree of mutual intelligibility with either Mazandarani or Gilaki, owing to profound differences in morphosyntax and vocabulary. This article is organized in three sections. The first section offers a morphosyntactic description of Tonekāboni. The second section is a typology of Tonekāboni within the framework of the Caspian language family, concluding that Tonekāboni and Rāmsari are two dialects of the same language. The third section explores the historical backdrop in which Tonekāboni has evolved. Le district de Tonekābon, situé au sud de la mer Caspienne entre le Gilān et le Māzanderān, est la patrie du tonekaboni, un groupe de langues caspiennes centrales auquel sont également associés ses voisins immédiats: le ramsari et le kalarestaqi. Les langues caspiennes centrales présentent un faible degré de l’intercompréhension avec le mazanderani ou le gilaki, du fait de différences morphosyntaxiques et lexicales importantes. Le présent article comprend trois parties. La première offre une description morphosyntaxique du tonekaboni; la seconde propose une typologie du tonekaboni au sein des langues caspiennes et conclut que le tonekaboni et le ramsari constituent deux dialectes d’une même langue. La troisième partie explore le contexte historique dans lequel a évolué le tonekaboni. |
