Any Phoenician role at the site is discounted, in the absence of any material evidence for it, and outdated pro-Phoenician prejudices are briefly discussed in the light of more recent research into Phoenician history, the sources of ‘Orientalising’ in Greece and identity of sources for pottery and other objects. |
