Abstract :
This note examines the tomb of a Saca/Pointed-Hat Scythian chieftain of the second half of the 4th century BC, possibly Mauakes, the commander at Gaugamela and crown prince, later king, of the Sacae, excavated at Issyk Kurgan in Kazakhstan; looks at the relationship between this group of Scythians and Achaemenid Persia and the campaigns of Alexander the Great; and touches upon their later migration and fate.
