Monétiforme et bilingue – arabe et moyenperse –, il comporte dans le champ du côté inscrit en arabe un verset du Coran (5:8) et sur l’autre face un texte moyen-perse qui en est de toute évidence inspiré, mais qui n’avait pas pu être entièrement lu. L’apparition récente d’un autre poids arabo-sassanide avec les mêmes légendes dans le champ présente l’occasion de réexaminer la légende moyen-perse. Forty-five years ago, a unique Arab-Sasanian weight, monetiform and bilingual – Arabic and Middle Persian – was published in this journal (Studia Iranica 5, 1976, pp. 165-169). The field on the side inscribed in Arabic bears a verse of the Qur’an (5:8) and on the other side there is a text in Middle Persian which is obviously inspired by the Arabic text, but could not then be read. The appearance of another Arab-Sasanian weight with the same legends in the field presents the opportunity for re-examining the legend in Middle Persian. |
