Document Details : Title: The Organization and Evolution of Tense Systems in the Yemne-Kimbi Languages Author(s): BOTNE, Robert Journal: Africana Linguistica Volume: 27 Date: 2021 Pages: 3-36 DOI: 10.2143/AL.27.0.3290070 Abstract : This paper examines the tense systems of the Yemni‑Kimbi languages of southwest Cameroon in the framework of the Domains and Regions approach. Although geographically close, linguistically the Yemne‑Kimbi languages exhibit a complex interweaving of tense morphology resulting from both genetic affiliation and areal contact, and borrowing. As all of the languages evince multiple past and future tenses, the discussion addresses the organization of each system as well as historical change arising from the influence contact has had on each of them. Cet article examine les systèmes temporels des langues yemni-‑kimbi du sud‑ouest du Cameroun dans le cadre de l’approche «Domaines et Régions». Bien que géographiquement proches, d’un point de vue linguistique, les langues yemne‑kimbi présentent un entrelacement complexe de morphologies temporelles résultant à la fois de l’affiliation génétique, du contact aréal et de l’emprunt. Comme toutes les langues présentent de multiples formes du passé et du futur, la discussion aborde l’organisation de chaque système ainsi que le changement historique résultant de l’influence que le contact a eu sur chacun d’eux. |
