Initially, it will describe the nature of ancient correspondence in an oral culture. Secondly, it will offer a definition of emotions. Thirdly, it will consider the emotions potentially aroused in an ancient audience in their hearing of Ephesians 1:2 and 3:14-21, noting the various rhetorical strategies employed to accomplish this task. Finally, this essay will summarize several ways that the arousal of the emotions of gratitude, joy, and reverence may have influenced the decisions of the Ephesian congregation. Cet article se concentre sur les réactions d’ordre émotionnel que pouvait éprouver un public du premier siècle à l’écoute de deux passages de l’épître aux Éphésiens (1,2 et 3,14-21). Il décrit pour commencer la nature de la correspondance ancienne dans une culture de tradition orale. Il présente ensuite une définition des émotions. Après quoi il considère les émotions suscitées par la lecture de ces deux passages en notant les différentes stratégies d’ordre rhétorique utilisées à cette fin.
