Abstract :

The Corona pandemic is again leading to growing injustice in Latin America, as the measures taken to combat the pandemic are increasing poverty and inequality. In view of this situation, the article, based on the theological image of a search for water in a dark night, reflects on the current challenges to our view of God and the world. The problem of theodicy cannot be met with recourse to the omnipotence of God and the idea of a world without suffering. Instead, a focus on God’s mercy is proposed, which challenges action against injustice: The spiritual thirst is the thirst for justice that can unite the people of Latin America in times of pandemic.
