After a short discussion of the Church Father’ homilies for church dedications in general and a detailed structural analysis of s. 336, it is shown that the latter homily was transmitted to us in two versions: an incomplete version that predates the middle of the eighth century and that is found in a series of French homiliaries, and an adaptation of this incomplete version that was produced in the tenth century at the latest and has been preserved uniquely in Italian sources. After a systematic overview of the sermon’s complex editorial history, a critical edition is offered of the sermon’s oldest preserved version. |
