Document Details : Title: Schrijven pro domo Subtitle: De bijdrage van twee Arnhemse regularissen aan de opbouw van hun kloosterbibliotheek Author(s): KIENHORST, Hans Journal: Ons Geestelijk Erf Volume: 90 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2020 Pages: 363-389 DOI: 10.2143/OGE.90.3.3289112 Abstract : This article studies six of the nineteen currently known Middle Dutch manuscripts of the convent of Sint-Agnes in Arnhem. These six books are supposed to have been written by two sisters ca 1460-1480, and their production has been connected to the convent’s adoption of the Rule of Augustine in or shortly before 1459. On the basis of the size of the quires, the paper of which the latter are made up, and the simple penwork decoration, it has been possible to determine that there are in fact two groups. The first consists of four manuscripts that may have been produced ca 1460 already, whereas the other two books possibly only date from the beginning of the sixteenth century. The differences between the two groups are so significant that it is hardly possible to continue speaking of a single scriptorium. The article’s conclusion is that Sint-Agnes’ entire scribal tradition, which continues to ca 1575, should be subjected to renewed study on the level of its materiality. |
