Abstract :
In 2017 appeared a book devoted to the monastery of St. John the Baptist of Urc (current Marz of Ararat). The present article aims at highlighting some data that its author regards as important. First this still little studied ensemble, which was built in the early 14 c., West from Vayoc‘ Jor, is one of the most original productions of the architectural school of this province, fertile in the 13th-14th century. Recently alarming news concern the stability of the monastery, dislocated by a landslide; this serious threat would require urgent safeguarding measures. Another interesting element is the discovery, near Hrazdan, of an unpublished work attributable to Sargis vardapet, author of the carved decoration of St. John the Baptist. These are six fragments of one of the largest khachkar-chapels of Armenia.
