Abstract :
This article presents a first edition of twelve Coptic ostraca at Columbia University in New York that relate to Bishop Abraham of Hermonthis (ca. 590-621) and originate from a dump created by Édouard Naville at Deir el-Bahri in 1893. The finds from this dump are known from photographs that Harry Burton took before their division between collections in Cairo and New York, and from Elisabeth O’Connell’s study in BASP 43 (2006) on the provenance and modern history of West Theban ostraca at Columbia University. The pieces edited here were selected from Martin Krause’s copy of Burton’s photographs, after which their present location and inventory numbers were established by means of O’Connell’s study and papyri.info.
