Document Details : Title: Consencio: La escansión de versos Author(s): BURGHINI, Julia Journal: Latomus Volume: 79 Issue: 1 Date: 2020 Pages: 25-51 DOI: 10.2143/LAT.79.1.3287975 Abstract : Consentius, who lived in Gaul in the fifth century, is the author of a manual of which two parts are preserved, a treatise on the noun and the verb (GL 5.338-385) and another on barbarisms and metaplasms (GL 5.386-398,15 = 1,3-22,18 N.) that is appended to De scandendis uersibus (GL 5.398,16-404-8 = 22,19-32,20 N.), a chapter on the scansion of verses. The article provides the first Spanish translation of De scandendis uersibus. This work constitutes a document of enormous interest for the knowledge of classical Latin prosody and its reception in late Antiquity: Consentius’ large explanations help to understand the conventional way classical poetry was understood (and read) at a time when the spoken language had diverged from the written one to a significant extent. |
