Document Details : Title: Corporéité et matière Subtitle: Hans Jonas et la pensée antique (entre atomisme et stoïcisme) Author(s): SPINELLI, Emidio Journal: Revue Philosophique de Louvain Volume: 117 Issue: 2 Date: mai 2019 Pages: 203-223 DOI: 10.2143/RPL.117.2.3287384 Abstract : Grâce à une analyse minutieuse de quelques passages pertinents de deux cours, tout récemment publiés, donnés par Hans Jonas à la New School for Social Research/New York (respectivement: Major Systems of Philosophy, 1963; Probems of Freedom, 1970), cet article examine (pour la première fois) son point de vue sur deux philosophies matérialistes majeures de l’Antiquité: l’atomisme et le stoïcisme primitifs. Parallèlement à une présentation générale, mais détaillée et historiquement fidèle, Jonas saisit aussi cette occasion pour exposer et souligner sa critique radicale de toute forme de matérialisme réductionniste, et pour soutenir le rôle décisif du «facteur spirituel», sur fond de ses conceptions connues à propos de la liberté humaine et de la responsabilité. Thanks to a careful analysis about some relevant passages of two courses, only recently published and held by Hans Jonas at the New School for Social Research/New York (respectively: Major Systems of Philosophy, 1963; Probems of Freedom, 1970), this paper examines (for the first time) his attitude towards two important materialistic philosophies of the ancient thought: early Atomism and Stoicism. Along with a overall, although detailed and historically faithful presentation of both ancient schools, Jonas also seizes the opportunity for presenting and reinforcing his radical critique against any form of reductionist materialism as well as for supporting the crucial role of the «spiritual factor», against the background of his well known ideas about human freedom and responsibility. |
