Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 96 Issue: 1 Date: 2020 Pages: 115-129 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.96.1.3287377 Abstract : Prescinding from the question whether or not ‘the Twelve Prophets’ qualify for being understood as a book, scholars agree that there are intertextual references between individual booklets. In this context, the analogy of Zech 13,9b with Hos 2,25 and also the affiliation of Zech 10,6 with Hosea 1-2 are investigated (1). This leads to an inquiry whether the promise of Hos 2,25 plays a role elsewhere in the Twelve. Especially Malachi 2 is relevant to this interest (2). From the semantic configuration of the image ‘Israel as YHWH’s wife’ (Hosea 1-2) in the Twelve, it does not seem reckless to suppose that the passages concerned belong to a tradition or redaction that has received Hosea 1-2, but which jettisons the metaphor of Yhwh’s relationship with a prostitute. In the conclusion, the results of the inquiry are discussed in diachronic and synchronic perspective. |
